Could You Be a More Effective Manager?
Across all businesses, across all industries, there’s one form of management that is used in about 80 to 90 percent of all businesses, and that is called “seagull management”.
Seagull management is where you swoop in, you crap all over everybody, and then you leave. You probably do this because it’s the easiest form of management. You point out everything that’s bad and then you just get the heck out of there. Although it's easiest, it isn't the most effective.

Instead you need to establish some standards for what you’re trying to accomplish. You have to have company goals, a company vision, and everybody needs to understand those company goals. Your team also has to understand how their roll helps accomplish the company’s goals. They all have to work together. They have to be synergistic.
Not only do you need to understand your team members’ goals for the company, you should also make sure that you understand your team members’ goals for themselves, personally. I think it’s very important because if they’re reaching their personal goals, it’s going to be much easier for them to be happy and healthy and energetic when they come to work each day. It helps them to actually be excited and have purpose for why they’re there.
So,
  • Establish the professional goals
  • Establish the personal goals
  • Have check-in times
  • Make sure that they’re on track for all of their different types of goals
  • Set deadlines for specific benchmarks, levels of accomplishing, or moving towards the completion of each of these projects
It will make a big difference.
